Complete Guide to Off Page SEO Techniques and Activities

Off-page submission refers to all the activities you do outside of your website to improve its ranking in search engines. In simple words, it means promoting your website on other platforms to get quality backlinks. Backlinks act as votes of confidence from other websites, telling search engines that your site is trustworthy and valuable. The more quality backlinks you have, the higher your website’s Domain Authority (DA) and chances of ranking better on search engine result pages (SERPs).

What is Domain Authority?

Domain Authority is a score developed by MOZ that measures how strong and credible a website is. It ranges from 1 to 100.

  • A score between 1 to 30 indicates low authority.
  • A score from 30 to 100 indicates high authority.

A website with a higher DA is often seen as more trustworthy and has a better chance of appearing at the top of search results.

Importance of Off Page Submissions

In SEO (Search Engine Optimization), both on-page and off-page techniques are essential. Some people assume that only on-page optimization like optimizing website content, keywords, and meta tags is enough. However, that’s not true. While on-page SEO brings direct traffic, off-page submissions help you get indirect traffic from other sites through backlinks.

Getting backlinks from other sites shows that your content is useful and well-optimized. No website owner will link to you unless your content adds value. For instance, if your website is about health and you get a backlink from an education-related website, it won’t make sense to the visitor. When users find irrelevant links, they leave immediately, and this increases your bounce rate and weakens user experience. So relevant backlinks are more important than just quantity.

Major Types of Off-Page Submissions

1. Directory Submission:
This is the simplest form of submission. You list your website under a relevant directory category. However, approval usually takes 2 to 6 months, so patience is important.

2. Classified Ads Submission:
Here, you post ads about your business or services on classified websites. Make sure to verify your email before submission. These links are generally approved within a month.

3. Article Submission:
You write a unique and valuable article related to your niche and submit it to article-sharing websites. Your article must be 100% original; duplicate content will be rejected as spam. Always add your website link naturally within the article.

4. Blog Commenting:
Find blogs that are related to your niche, read their articles, and post meaningful comments. Avoid generic comments. Instead, write creative and keyword-rich comments that appreciate the content and add value.

5. PDF Submission:
Prepare useful documents, reports, or presentations related to your website and convert them into PDF format. Upload them to PDF-sharing websites with proper titles, descriptions, and your website link.

6. Forum Submission:
Join discussion forums that match your website’s topic. Find relevant questions and reply with detailed, well-written answers. Include your website link naturally within your response.

7. Image Sharing:
Share quality images, infographics, or visuals from your website on image-sharing platforms. Add your website URL and keyword in the image description to attract traffic.

8. Social Bookmarking:
This is one of the most effective methods. First, create an account and verify your email. Complete your profile, then post articles, images, or blogs regularly. These submissions help search engines index your site faster.

9. Press Release Submission:
When you organize an event, launch a product, or make an announcement, submit a press release on PR websites. It spreads awareness about your business and drives visitors from high-authority news and media sites.

Competitor Analysis Before Submission

Before starting your off-page activities, analyze your competitors:

  • Identify who your main competitors are.
  • Check how many backlinks they have and from which websites.
  • Note down those websites’ Domain Authorities.
If the DA of those sites is higher than yours, it’s worth submitting your site there. If not, skip them and focus on high-authority platforms to get better link juice.

Maintaining and Tracking Your Backlinks

Building backlinks is not a one-time job. You must regularly track your backlinks to ensure they remain active. If you notice any lost backlinks, resubmit your website on those platforms. Keeping a consistent backlink profile helps maintain your Domain Authority and search engine ranking.
